Arranging an assessment

Contact the outpatient line to arrange a consultation with the aesthetic surgery service, and say when you book that you are asking about more than one operation. Tell the booking team if you have had previous abdominal or breast surgery, including a caesarean section, and if you have a history of blood clots, because both change how much time the appointment needs.

What to bring

Bring a list of your current medications, including anything bought without a prescription, and the name of any condition you are treated for. If you are still breastfeeding, say so at the start. Bring any imaging you have had. If you have kept a record of your weight over the past year, bring it: stability is one of the things a combined plan depends on, and a record is more useful than a recollection.

What the consultation covers

A history of your weight, your pregnancies and any previous surgery; an examination of the abdomen, the abdominal wall and the breasts; an explicit discussion of which parts are worth combining and which are better staged; and an estimate of what can be finished in one anaesthetic. You should leave knowing what would be dropped first if time runs short, how many weeks of restricted lifting you are facing, and what remains uncertain. If any of that is missing, ask again.

The household in the room

It helps to bring the adult who will be covering the first two weeks, or to have already agreed with them what they can take on. The questions that decide the plan are practical ones — who lifts the child, who takes the nights, who drives — and they are answered more honestly in the room than at home afterwards.

Interpreting and international patients

Patients travelling from outside Chongqing, and patients who need interpretation, can arrange both through the hospital’s international patient service. Ask when you book so that the appointment is scheduled with enough time for a full discussion rather than a short one.
